London

by Melissa & Richard Terris

London was one of the first European countries that I have ever visited and it was everything I imagined; including the fog, rain, and of course Buckingham palace! The first time I visited was in 2016, and at that time I made sure to see Big Ben, London Bridge, the London Eye, and visited the famous department stores, such as Harrods and Selfridges, where I had a little celebrity sighting (Eve!). My return trip in 2019 as a married woman with Richard was a little less touristy, more low key, and didn’t include any rain or fog. We were lucky and the sun was out every day. With little time on our schedule we made this a weekend adventure.

We hopped on the underground, which being a New Yorker and having one of largest subway systems in the world, was very easy to navigate and maneuver. Our first stop was Abbey Road, a place that Richard has made it to a few times previously, since he has been to London far more times than me, and is a huge Beatles fan!. When we made it to Abbey Road, we had to do that zebra crossing, which took a few takes, involved dodging cars, and crowds of tourists attempting to get just the right photo.

After capturing that death defying picture we made our way to Camden town, where all your senses are activated. From the fun stores selling unique pieces of jewelry and clothes to interesting restaurants with a large variety of foods. It was like you traveled the world, with choices that include Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, and Indian. We were only able to grab a snack as it was soon time for dinner.

Dinner was at the Grand London Park Lane Hotel. The food was delicious! The service was quick and the ambiance was quaint and romantic. We were stuffed and decided to walk it off and made our way to one of my favorite places, Buckingham palace. I imagine if I go up to the gate enough times they’ll let me in or call the police. I was hoping for the former, but neither happened!.

While in London we decided to stop off at another great city which was just a train ride away. Stay tuned for the next post to know where we decided to make our pit stop.
